What an end to the season!
30 Nov 2012
As 2012 draws to a close it’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on the year and celebrate some of the special moments from an exhilarating season of racing.
Fresh in the mind is Nico’s outstanding drive in Brazil last week - a race that saw us dominate at the front for 30 laps and come within touching distance of our first victory. Fifth place seemed little consolation following such a strong team performance.
Singapore is also a standout moment as Paul raced to a career-best fourth place and came within a whisker of the podium. It was a sweet result and a clear indication of the progress made by the team during the second half of the season.
In fact, you might say that Sahara Force India is the team that improved the most during the year. If you split the championship in two, the numbers confirm that we were the fifth strongest team in the second half of the season. From the summer break onwards, Nico and Paul scored a combined total of 63 points. Compare that with the 46 points for Sauber or the 36 points for Mercedes.
It’s also worth noting our consistency, especially in the latter part of the year, with Sahara Force India scoring points in all of the final nine races – a 100% record from Belgium to Brazil. If you take the season as a whole, the team scored points in 80% of the races – a record only bettered by Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Lotus.
It makes you wonder what might have been had we hit the ground running at the start of 2012. But on the other hand, finishing the year strongly gives everyone at Silverstone plenty to be excited about for 2013. With stable regulations and momentum on our side, there’s every reason to believe we can maintain our competitiveness and continue to give the heavyweights a run for their money next year.
