The Yas Marinas circuit will feature a Monaco-style harbour front section using public roads, and another section similar to the Eau Rouge corner of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Turn 3 looks like a real challenge. It is a reducing radius corner, but the next three corners depend on it, so good momentum and a good lap time could be decided there. Turn 6, the hairpin and Turn 7, after the long straight will potentially be the two best overtaking spots.

Guide

The final round of the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship will take place in Abu Dhabi at the newly constructed Yas Marina circuit 30km from the city limits. It’s the second time this year the series has visited the Middle Eastern Gulf region, but the first time ever in Abu Dhabi.

The venue will be one of the most modern ever seen in F1. Built on a man-made island, the track passes through a marina area lined with state of the art housing and administrative buildings and even a theme park and a water park. The circuit’s own construction is cutting-edge as it passes through a hotel lobby via a clear tunnel and the pit lane exit passes underground via a passageway.

Although the world championship was decided in Brazil, the atmosphere at the track should still be electric as the UAE will be sure to put on a big show as it welcomes F1 for the first time.

  Tonio’s View

We have done some laps of Yas Marina in the simulator and it looks like a great facility. The track seems very interesting and could suit the VJM02 very well as there are a few long straights and a tricky middle section. It’s also good to visit new venues so I’m looking forward to this race.
The race starts at 17:00hrs and should finish around twilight when the light isn’t so good. I wasn’t driving in Australia or Malaysia when the races were run at a similar time, but I heard it was very difficult. It could be fun though and I like to gamble so let’s see how it is. The most important however is that the atmosphere will be great. I’ve been to Abu Dhabi in the past, four or five years ago, and it’s an interesting city. There are a lot of things to see and do and, as such, it will be a great way to close the championship.
